Randall Garrison . . .
LUST IN AMERICA
and other odd views of reality

Randall Garrison brings a unique voice to American Poetry. His compact lines are deceptive. The words are simple, but they pack a punch. Principally this is due to his singular way of looking at things, but there is a clean unexpected imagery that, for all its sparseness, is rewardingly rich. How Garrison regards his calling is plain from these lines, which he calls, simply, “Poet.”

a poet
is a fighting cock
with spurs
whatever sex
not comfortable
until you bleed
preoccupied
with winning
and being fed
puffing to be larger
than any given space
and not so much
concerned
with sharing feelings
as with
inflicting them

What he “inflicts” is insight. Garrison is an expander of perceptions, making us see as perhaps we have never seen before. This is a collection of poetry that cuts to the bone.
